The Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election is expected in February–March 2027. No official date has been announced yet. The Election Commission of India (ECI) announces the exact schedule only around 60 days before polling, so treat every date on this page as a working estimate until then.

Why this window?

India’s Constitution requires a state assembly election within the five years following the previous one, before the sitting assembly’s term expires. The current Uttar Pradesh assembly, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath (BJP), was elected in 2022, which is what places the next election in February–March 2027.

How an Indian assembly election is scheduled

• Notification — the ECI announces the schedule and the Model Code of Conduct takes effect immediately.
• Nomination — candidates file nomination papers with the Returning Officer for their constituency.
• Scrutiny and withdrawal — nominations are checked, and candidates may withdraw by a set deadline.
• Polling — voting takes place, usually in a single phase for a state this size.
• Counting and result — votes are counted by EVM, and results are declared the same day.
